FREE Zone 0 Wildfire Mitigation Help for Eligible Santa Cruz County Homeowners

A new Santa Cruz County program is offering FREE Zone 0 vegetation clearing for eligible homeowners who may not be physically or financially able to do this important wildfire-preparation work themselves.

Resilience-Ready Santa Cruz: The Zone-0 Equity & Workforce Initiative is a project of the Long Term Recovery Group of Santa Cruz County, funded through Santa Cruz County Measure Q.

Zone 0 is the critical first five feet around your home. Reducing combustible vegetation and materials in this area can help protect a home from ember ignition and reduce the chance of fire spreading from one structure to another.

Who Is Eligible?

The program is intended for homeowners who:

• Live within Santa Cruz County
• Are located in a designated CAL FIRE High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone
• Have household income below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI)

Priority is given to seniors and people with access or functional needs.

Know a Neighbor Who Could Use Some Help?

This is especially important. The people who could benefit most from this program may not necessarily hear about it online.

You can complete the intake survey for yourself or on behalf of a neighbor who may need assistance. If referring someone else, you must have their permission before sharing their contact information.

Once the survey is submitted, the program team will follow up directly to assess eligibility and priority.

They hope to identify 20 properties by the end of October, so early referrals are encouraged.
